Flowers in France

Join Ginnie Peterson and Therese Sexe from Crocus Hill Studio for a week of flowers, flower arranging, and foraging in the French countryside September 20-27 in Sarlat, France.

The idea of the trip is to have an experience in a special part of the world and really experience the place with creative people, honing our skills in flower design and natural aesthetics through exercises and workshops.  We will be foraging from Brenda’s beautiful grounds and using local flowers from the market. What I love about this area and this idea is that is it nurturing without being “spa”.  There are lots of places to walk.  We will go kayaking on a river with castles mushrooming up along the cliffs above us.  We will go to see the paleolithic cave drawings.  We will go to two markets. We will eat like royalty.  And most importantly, we will feed our creative souls by being creative, practicing the art of flower arranging, expanding our limits by thinking big. We have a full docket of artistic challenges to help you hone your eye, solidify your mechanics and build your confidence in your individual aesthetic sense.

We will be together, but the “gites” are a 5 minute walk so, everything won’t be dictated by getting in a car.  We will rendezvous at the chateau to work and have the afternoon for exploring, resting, taking a swim in the pool or doing one of the excursions.  One night we will gather ingredients from the market for a meal which we can cook together.

We are limiting the group to 8 people maximum.  The group that is forming are people we are honored and excited to spend time with.  We hope you join us for a wonderful and unique experience. Email us for all the details.

OUR CLASSES

In each of our classes we meet new people and we are thrilled.  We get to share inspiration and creativity in a non competitive environment.  We may have never met, but we have plenty in common. From the outside no one would know, but put a bunch of sticks, moss, flowers in front of us and we speak the same language.  The room goes quiet, a chair gets turned on it's side to hold a armature for a piece of living art, someone has found the mushrooms we brought and is gathering a handful for her work, another person studies a branch of blooming dogwood, visually measuring where to cut it, how will it keep its gesture in the vase without getting lost....It is a wonderful thing to be part of, years of looking and noticing, individual experiences and aesthetics that are unfolding in a room of other creatives.  Everyone brings something to the table and we learn from each other.  The class is just a vessel for the inspiration.

France will be like this too, just deeper and wider.  We will be able to push our limits and see what we can do when we are given time,  and materials that speak to us in a beautiful place.
